17- Weyerbacher Fifteen – “smoked Imperial Stout” (4/5) – smoke in back
18- Natty Greene’s Habanero Smoked Porter (3/5) will burn your throat!
19- Peak Organic Brewing Company Weiss Principal (3.5/5) balanced hops
20- Heavy Seas Firkin of Siren Noire “Imperial Chocolate Stout fermented and flavored with Belgian Chocolate nibs” (4/5) might be too sweet for some; heavy on vanilla and tastes like chocolate milk
21- Duck Rabbit Bourbon Barrel Aged Baltic Porter (4/5) – malty, bourbon smell chocolate taste
22- Highland Spivey Mountain Wit “Belgian Wit with 50% pilsner malt, 40% wheat, and 10% oat, hopped with Saaz, Cascade, and spiced with orange peels and coriander.” (4/5) slightly sour wheat; would have tasted orange flavor better with an orange slice. Good summer beer.
23- Uinta 2009 Vintage Anniversary Barleywine (3.5/5) hoppy but not overwhelming
24- Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Quad 12.3% ABV (5/5) – very smooth operator.
25- Dogfish Head Bitches Brew 2010 Vintage (Original Batch) “three threads of Imperial Stout and one thread of honey beer with gesho root.” (3/5/5) can taste honey and malt.
26- Brouwerij Rodenbach N.V. 2008 Vintage Rodenbach (3.5/5) sour but good- not undrinkable sour.
27- Brooklyn 2007 Vintage Black Chocolate Stout (4/5) smooth
28- Allagash Thing 2 “Some of the runnings from Thing 1 and boiled with dark candy sugar” (4/5) herby, light caramel, wheat-y, maybe.
29- Lagunitas 2010 Vintage Bourbon Barrel Cappacino Stout 10% ABV (5/5) mmmmmm. very coffee.
30- New Holland Blue Sunday Sour (4.5/5) nicely balanced between malts and sours.
31- Anchor O.B.A (Our Barrel Ale) “special blend of their ales aged six months in charred oak barrels that had been used to age Anchor Old Potrero Straight Rye Whiskey” (5/5) v. smooth, very nice blend.
32- Stone Double Dry Hopped Ruination (2/5) very, very hoppy- good for hop fans (I am not one!). Not grassy, just really bitter.
33- Kuhnhenn Old Bruin Sour Cherry 12% ABV “Flanders Sour Brown Ale made with Michigan Montmorency Cherries” (5/5, really a 6/5). Good for cherry/fruit beer lovers- cherries on the nose and taste and finish. Not overly sweet, either- nicely balanced between fruit and beer.
34- Terrapin The Wizard (2009 Vintage Side Project Volume 9 – Belgian Style Imperial Stout made with Westmalle yeast- aged in Woodword Reserve Barrels) (4/5) – has a “pow” finish- can taste the bourbon bitters.
35- Foothills 2010 Vintage Sexual Chocolate aged over Cocoa Nibs (5/5) – more peaty than “normal” Sexual Chocolate, still smooth and dark chocolate flavor.
36- Crispin Wonderwall (Unfiltered Pear Cider aged in Zinfandel Red Wine Barrels for 15 months) (4/5) “tastes like your favorite wine spritzer”
37- Bell’s Black Note “Blends Expedition & Double Cream stouts and aged the combination in freshly retired oak bourbon barrels for months.” (4/5) a little spicy in the finish, but also bourbon and chocolatey
38- Rogue Creamy 75th Anniversary Ale paired with Rogue Farms Freedom Cheddar Cheese (5/5) did not get to have cheese but this is one hell of an excellent beer. Balanced and very tasty.
39- Lefthand Whiskey Barrel Aged Widdershins Barleywine (3.5/5) a little bitter for a barleywine.
40- Huske Hardware Black hOPS and Watermelon Wheat (3/5) watermelon on tongue only but very weak finish. felt a little watery.
41- New Belgium 2011 Vintage Le Terrior (4.5/5) heavy on the apple in terms of smell and taste, but very delicious. Would be great for braising greens!
42- 21st Amendment 2011 Vintage Allies Win the War “English Style Strong ale brewed with California dates and an aggressive arsenal of all-Northwest hops” (4/5) mildly sweet, tasty, balanced
43- Cervejaria Bodebrown (Brazil) Scotch Ale Wee Heavy (4/5) sweet and malty, a bit like Tripel Karmeliet
44- Anderson Valley Brewing Boont Oude Brujin “brewed with redwood tips and the rare New Zealand nelson sauvin hop, aged 8 months- 35% of beer soured in stainless steel, of the remaining beer, 60% in red and white wine barrel, 40% in brandy and bourbon barrels” (3.5/5) very fruity but also extremely vinegary
